The Spirits among the Rose Garden

There once was a question that was asked; I was the child who was doing the
asking, and my grandfather was answering. I asked him why it was that upon the
cold mornings we would see the white roses glow with a ghostly gleam, and why
water would appear upon the pedals. He told me as I am telling you now, for each
rose upon the morning light, glows with the ghosts of the past who come to drink
the eternal waters of peace.

Long ago there were two lovers, a man named Soleil and a woman named Lune. They
had a small home where they lived together alone, amongst their farms and
gardens, but one night Soleil was called to serve in a war, and on his last
night Lune took him out to the deepest part of the garden. There grew her
favorite bushel of white roses, the looked to him and told him that every
morning when the sun would rise, she would sit among these roses, and if he did
not rise with the sun, she would cry for him to return. He promised her that he
would return, they had a long kiss good night, and as the sun slowly fell in the
west, so did the image of Lune's love.

The next morning, Lune went to the rose garden, dressed in her best white
wedding dress, awaiting for her future husband to come to her. And when his
figure did not rise with the sun, she cried, and the rose pedals collected her
tears. She was so sad that she ran from the rose garden, and a small piece of
her dress was torn. When she got home she promised her self, that every day she
would go out there and wait for him.

Years passed, and she did as she promised. Everyday before dawn she would kneel
in her rose garden, and every day the sun would rise and her beloved Soleil
would not. Her tears fell like the rain, and her dress was yet torn again as she
ran from the rose garden back to her home. Upon that night, a rider from the
kingdom came to visit her, he brought the bad news that the war they were
fighting was lost, and no one was left alive. After so many years of crying she
had nothing more, but she asked that he bring her a piece of each fallen
warrior, and so he did.

The next morning Lune went out side, and carried with her each of the parts
collected for her. She buried them within the rose garden, and slowly as the sun
rose that morning, the ghosts of the body parts were absorbed by the roses. With
a brilliant show of light, they were a glow while the sun rose, and she cried
one last time. She cried for the war, for those killed senselessly, and most of
all, for her lost love who fought a blind war. Some say that on that day, Soleil
rose with the sun, and asked her to be with him forever in an endless chase
across the sky, she smiled happily and cried her very last tears, which show
upon the roses every morning as a sign of her happiness. They play in the sky
today, Soleil will rise to chase the ever happy Lune, and in a playful manner,
he will strip a piece of her wedding dress from her only to have her remake it
every few weeks. To this day they chase each other across the sky, but as you
watch their splendor, one must also remember the ghosts of the roses upon the
earth.
I wrote this for a class and I found it on my computer today. It's not edited or anything but I really liked the story, inspired by the song " Ghost of a Rose" By Blackmore's Night. Enjoy.
